To apply for a contributory parent visa 173, you must stand out on various important requirements. These are:

• You can apply for the visa if you have not already applied or held a sponsored parent subclass 870 visa.
• You must be sponsored for this visa. In case your child is under 18 years, you can be sponsored by an eligible relative, community, or community organisation.
• You must meet the balance-of-test criteria to apply for this visa.
• You must fulfil the health and character requirements of the contributory parent visa subclass 173.
• You or any of your family members must not have any pending debt with the government. In case you have, pay it back as soon as possible or make an appropriate arrangement on your behalf.
• You must not have had any cancelled or refused a visa in the past when you were in Australia.
• If you are under 18 years of age, you must sign the Australian values statement; to confirm that you will abide by the laws of the Australian Government while you are there.
• This visa application should be in the best interest if the applicant is under 18 years.

This is a great visa option for parents and lets you accomplish various tasks such as-

• You can live in Australia for two years.
• You can also study and work in Australia but without the support of the Australian Government.
• You can also enrol yourself in Australia’s Healthcare and Medicare Schemes.
• With this, you will also be eligible for a contributory parent visa subclass 143.

To apply for this visa, you will first have to check if you have a valid passport or not. Besides, if you are unable to apply for the visa yourself, you can then take the help of a migration consultant in Adelaide. Following this, you will then have to gather certain important documents such as identity, sponsor, balance-of-family, character, dependents, and partner documents. Along with this, you will also have to prepare your photographs.

In the next step, you will then have to apply for a visa. Applying on paper is highly preferable and you can either apply from outside or inside Australia. One critical thing to note here is that you cannot apply if you have already applied or held a sponsored parent(temporary) visa subclass 870. Post visa application, you will have to take a dig deeper into other important aspects like status updates, biometrics, payment of the second instalment, the addition of any family member, and any immediate changes in the visa application.

In the last step, you will have to wait for your visa application. You can either be in Australia or outside when authorities decide on your visa application.

There are some changes in the ‘Migration Regulations 1994’ that came into effect on March 24th, 2021. As per the new changes, you will get this visa only if:

• The application was made before 24th March 2021.
• The visa is granted before the concession period ends.
• The visa applicant was in Australia on 24th March 2021.
• The applicant was in Australia when the visa was granted.

During the final phase of the visa application, if you fulfil all the visa requirements, including health status, nature and support, you will get a temporary concession to get a visa while you are in Australia.

The COVID-19 concession period is an interim agreement that began in February 2020 and its final date is yet to be determined.

If you are outside Australia, the Authorities will let you know about the visa outcome. If you get the visa, the authorities will inform you about it through a document that will also include details such as- visa grant number, starting date of the visa application, and other visa conditions(if any).

If you don’t get the visa, you will know about that too. With that, you will also be notified about the reason behind the visa denial and the right to review the decision. Keep a note that you won’t get any refund in the case of visa rejection.
